Interiors, Drawing Space - Sense of Place

Interiors, Drawing Space - Sense of Place

Through observed and exploratory drawing this 2 day course focuses on capturing a sense of place in the spacious and relaxing studio at Bransbury. You will be considering the interior and exterior spaces, evoking a feeling of place through a variety of drawn approaches.

A sense of place is about the relationship between people and a spatial setting.

If an artwork has a sense of place this is often achieved by the ability of the artist to create a sense of belonging and ambience. This course is designed to explore how this is achieved by considering the works of artists such as Edward Hopper, Marina Fridman and Jeanette Barnes and how we can evoke our own feeling of belonging.

This will be explored through a variety of different (and fun!) techniques using charcoal, graphite and ink such as blind drawings, growing drawings, bringing the outside in, using light to our advantage and culminating in a collaborative drawing to create a personal group portrait and map of our experience of place.

2 day course, 14th and 15th March 10am-4pm

Introduction to Drawing with Ink and Wash

Discover how to draw using ink in this comprehensive and enjoyable workshop at Hampshire Art Studio. Ink and wash occupies an interesting cross-over position between drawing and painting. It has been a popular medium across the centuries used regularly by artists such as Nicolas Poussin, Vincent Van Gogh, Samuel Palmer and Cy Twombly, and is an exciting element of contemporary expressive work.

Learn how to combine ink and wash to enhance your landscapes or botanical work, to add depth to your drawing and as a speedy way to take tonal notes. Or as an experimental expressive way to make your mark.

We will explore a variety of techniques including washes and masking, using pens and brushes and investigating different surfaces. Markmaking is particularly exciting using this accommodating media. You will explore expressive, contemporary marks alongside a more traditional approach.

This introduction to drawing with ink is a great place to start or ‘brush up’ on your skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Suitable for all abilities.
